Hummingbird festival set for this weekend
The annual Hummingbird Migration Celebration at Strawberry Plains Audubon Center is this weekend.
The big event, which draws thousands of visitors, will be held Friday through Sunday, Sept. 5-7, at the center just off Highway 311 near Holly Springs. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.
Lots of programs will be available – from hummingbirds and bats, to butterflies and snakes, and more.

Isaac Chapel Fun Day Saturday at 11 a.m.
Isaac Chapel’s fourth annual “Fun Day at the Park” is set for Saturday, Sept. 6, from 11 a.m. until.
Food will be sold and school supplies will be given away.
Lots of activities are planned during the big event. They include games by Lemon Phelps, Marshall County Extension Service/4-H Club; Holly Springs firefighter tank exhibit; bouncers, water slides and more; Mississippi Highway Patrol safe-driving assimilator; J Bar B Rodeo championship animal display; radio live remote of the J. Faulk and Lil Dee Show; gospel music; praise dance competition; Holly Springs Main Street Chamber presentation; recognition of outstanding work in the community; and a “Let’s Improve Our School” from Nashonda Johnson, principal at Galena School.
Donations of school supplies are being accepted.

Annual Wrecking Ball Sept. 20 at Chalmers
The Wrecking Ball, an evening of music, food and fellowship put on by Preserve Marshall County & Holly Springs, is Saturday, Sept. 20, at 6 p.m. on the grounds of the historic Chalmers Institute.
The event will feature entertainment by national recording artist Shannon McNally and Willie Bearden, film maker and author. Dinner will be prepared by Tyler Clancy.
A silent auction will also help raise money for the restoration of the historic Chalmers. Tours of the facility will be available.
Tickets are $40 a person or $75 a couple if purchased prior to September 18. They can be purchased at the door at $50 for singles and $100 for couples.
The location is 151 SW Boundary, Holly Springs.
