The
outgoing Holly Springs mayor and board of aldermen, plus recently
retired employees and a citizen, were recognized last week. The
next to the last board meeting for the outgoing administration was held
in the Eddie Lee Smith Multi-Purpose Building to accommodate a large

at this year’s Byhalia Festival, sponsored by the Byhalia Lions Club,

Suspect arrested, another at-large By SUE WATSON Staff Writer One
suspect was arrested, another escaped and a third subject was released
after an incident Thursday afternoon that began at Martin Brothers
Scrap Metal, according to Byhalia Police Chief Gary Looney. He said the police department received a dispatch reporting suspicious activity at Martin Brothers about 2:21 p.m. Full Story
Newspaper 75 cents beginning in July Starting next week, the single copy price of The South Reporter will increase to 75 cents. This
will apply to those purchasing the newspaper from one of 60 vendors
across Marshall or Benton counties or from racks in the Holly Springs

Vicious dogs a problem for resident By SUE WATSON Staff Writer A Marshall County resident has taken his dog problem to the board of supervisors. Harold
Campbell said his neighbor has some nice dogs but also a couple of pit
bulls that run free and terrorize him and his wife when they leave
their house. Calls for assistance to the
sheriff’s department has had only short-term results, he said. The
deputy comes and the owner puts his dogs back up for a few weeks, then
unexpectedly the pit bulls are once again on the loose, he said. Full Story
Library continues Food for Fines; new hours in Potts Camp The Marshall County Library System has extended its Food for Fines program through the end of July. Anyone who brings a can of food gets $1 off a fine. The food goes to support the pantry at the New Hope Village shelter. Full Story
County school board plans July 18 meeting The Marshall County School Board will hold its July board meeting on Thursday, July 18, at 4:30 p.m. It will be held in the board room of the Marshall County supervisors at 103B Market Street in Holly Springs.
Holly Springs police respond to 112 calls, make felony arrests Officers with the Holly Springs Police Department responded to 112 calls last week, according to chief William Hollowell. The
calls included – disturbances, 15; alarms, 24; larcenies, 5; accidents,
6; assists to agencies, 4; burglaries, 2; domestics, 4; funeral escort,
1; checks on homebound, 1; 911 hang-up calls, 4; assaults, 2; and 44
miscellaneous calls. The dogcatcher responded to 13 calls. Full Story
