precaution while a tanker containing liquid nitrogen was drained. Hugh
Hollowell, emergency management coordinator for Marshall County, said
transfer of the liquid to another container was considered too
dangerous because of damage to controls on the tank, caused by a tire

There are mushroom
experts in the woods in Marshall County and
two of them have started a business growing edible mushrooms.

have established a laboratory and grow
a few common varieties of edible mushrooms for the market. Their
business, Dickey Farms Mushrooms, is just a fledgling one, but they
hope the word spreads and more people want mushrooms for their table. Full Story
Police advisory committee approved By SUE WATSON Staff Writer The Holly Springs Board of Aldermen recently approved a police advisory committee. Chief
William Hollowell asked for the committee to help gather input from the
community on the problems they see in policing in the city and
suggestions of ways to help improve conditions that would lower the

Job Fair draws 42 companies, lots of applicants By SUE WATSON Staff Writer Staffing agencies were pleased with the quality of applicants at the Marshall-Benton Area Job Fair. Organizers said over 400 applicants came to the fair and over 200 job offers were made by employers on Tuesday of last week. Full Story
Supervisors want roads cleaned up By SUE WATSON Staff Writer Marshall
County supervisor Eddie Dixon has proposed that the sheriff obtain
information on how to start a roadside trash pickup program using
inmates. “It’s getting worse and worse,” he said
of the way trash is collecting on county roadsides. “We have a program
and can use inmates but we have to have a place to house them. I have
more people grumbling about trash and debris on the road.” Full Story
U.S. Marshals Service presents award to sheriff’s office, recognizes Thompson The
Marshall County Sheriff’s Department was recently honored by the United
States Marshals Service for the work of investigator Tammy Thompson. The
award recognizes her assisting the Marshals Service Sex Offender Task

Holly Springs police respond to 94 calls Officers with the Holly Springs Police Department responded to 94 calls last week, according to chief William Hollowell. The
calls included – disturbances, 5; alarms, 9; larcenies, 1; accidents,
2; funeral escorts, 1; domestics, 4; assists to agencies, 4; checks on
homebound, 1; 911 hang-ups, 2; shots fired, 1; assaults, 2; and 62
