Supervisors debate sewer funding By SUE WATSON Staff Writer The
Marshall County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution recently
requesting the Mississippi Legislature pass a $1.1 million bond bill to
build the Cayce Road/Highway 72 sewer. The county will also work on a

16.9 miles of work on Highway 78. Sanford said his crew can lay about a
mile a day. Construction workers drop a post in the concrete foundation
and after it cures in 10 to 11 days, the posts and cable can be
installed to form a flexible barrier that absorbs the impact of
vehicles that accidentally cross into the median. |
The
Mississippi Department of Transportation is placing median cable
guard-rail barriers along the Highway 78 corridor from the Tennessee
line to the Alabama line. Work has begun on 16.9
miles of a portion that starts in DeSoto County and extends through
Marshall County, according to Mike Tagert, commissioner of

County sheriff’s deputies recovered a stolen pickup Saturday in the Mt.
Pleasant area and made arrests, according to sheriff Kenny Dickerson. Full Story
Pilgrimage weekend April 8-10 The 73rd Pilgrimage “Festival of Art and Architecture” will take place in historic Holly Springs April 8-10. Set
in the Antebellum Capitol of the Mid-South, the tour features selected
antebellum homes hosted by costumed guides, local storytellers, organ
recitals in the town’s historic churches, horse-drawn carriage rides,
Civil War re-enactors, luncheons, a character-guided cemetery tour,
arts and crafts and a Southern supper in the antebellum Montrose

Sheriff Kenny Dickerson described the late Eddie Mae Lucas and the late Carol Scruggs as “special people, special officers.” A
year after the death of Lucas and less than a year after the loss of
deputy Scruggs, employees with the sheriff’s department and Dickerson
held a memorial service for the families of the two women. Full Story

Earthquake drill April 28 The Mississippi
Emergency Management Agency is encouraging everyone in the state to
know how to prepare for earthquakes by participating in the Great
Central U.S. ShakeOut drill on April 28. The ShakeOut is a 10-state,
coordinated earthquake drill that will take place at 10:15 a.m. Full Story

Gary Looney released the following report – alarm calls, 5;
miscellaneous, 12; escorts, 5; assists, 1; motor vehicle accidents, 2;
fires, 3; and medical-related calls, 12. Byhalia police officers also made eight arrests during the past week. |
