Construction of West Boundary extension should begin soon. Bids were set to be opened Tuesday afternoon this week. Construction of the long awaited loop that will connect West Boundary at Chulahoma Avenue to Crescent Meadow Drive will begin this fall, according to Don Hollingsworth, public works director for the City of Holly Springs.
Veterans tribute arrives Nov. 25 The Holly Springs Chamber of Commerce, together with the Collins-Hurdle VFW Post #5697 will host the American Veterans Traveling, “Cost of Freedom Tribute,” which is slated to be in Holly Springs November 25-December 1. Election night goes smoothly By SUE WATSON Voter turnout was early and heavy in Marshall County November 4 with lines at the polls in most precincts well before voting began at 7 a.m., according to election officials. But voting went smoothly at most precincts, according to circuit clerk Lucy Carpenter. Approximately 80 percent of the registered voters in the county cast ballots. She attributed the smooth election day to several factors. Most precincts, if not all, finished by the 7 p.m. closing time. Brewer takes leadership of new Main Street program By SUE WATSON Cynthia Brewer has been named the first executive director of the Holly Springs Main Street Program. She began her new job Monday, one week before the association holds its first charrettes to flesh out the details of what the community wants Main Street to do in this city of over 8,000 residents. Buyers’ investments, talents boost community By SUE WATSON Holly Springs Mayor Andre’ DeBerry has said the community does not see itself as outsiders do. And outsiders bring not only their investments that are saving historic properties to town but their varied talents and vision. Police respond to reports of stolen car, burglary of vehicle The Holly Springs Police Department reported four criminal incidents for the week ending November 3. Officers investigated a breaking and entering in the 100 block of East College on Thursday, Nov. 6, according to police chief Robert Pearson. An undetermined amount of cash and postage stamps were taken, he said. The owner of a 1997 black Nissan Maxima reported her vehicle stolen from the 200 block of East College Thursday, Nov. 6. The owner said she went inside a business at approximately 3:30 p.m. and when she returned to get something out of the vehicle, it was missing. Officers reported an attempted burglary in the 400 block of South Craft. Officers arrived on the scene and found where the subject(s) had attempted to gain entry in the south side metal door, which had been damaged. The owner of a vehicle reported her 2009 Nissan Altima had been burglarized Friday, Nov. 7. Missing from the car was a black jacket with the Delta Theta Sigma crest on the back. Other police activities last week included – no driver’s license/expired license (4); driving while license suspended (8); no proof of insurance (6); expired tag (11); speeding (2); reckless driving (1); disregard of traffic devices (1); improper passing (1); seatbelt violation (1); handicap parking violation (1); parking in fire lane (1); driving without headlights (1); false information (1); resisting arrest (1); disorderly conduct (1); simple assault/domestic violence (3); public drunk (2); driving under the influence (1); and violation of loud music ordinance (2). Byhalia police respond to 27 calls The Byhalia Police Department responded to 27 calls during the past week. Chief Gary Looney released the following report – four alarm calls, two motor vehicle accidents, three disturbances, three escorts, two juvenile-related calls, four assists, five medical assists and four miscellaneous calls. Byhalia police officers also made eight arrests during the past week. |
