Fifteen-year-old in custody in shooting of Byhalia youth By SUE WATSON Staff Writer A
suspect in the killing of a Byhalia teenager Tuesday has been taken
into custody, according to sheriff Kenny Dickerson and police chief
Gary Looney. Looney requested assistance from the
Marshall County Sheriff’s Department in the investigation.
Fifteen-year-old Remill Cortez Mason, age 15, of 50 White Oak, Byhalia,
is in custody at Marshall County jail and being held for the Byhalia
Police Department, Dickerson said. Mason is a
suspect in the killing of 17-year-old Terrell Richmond, found dead at
his home in Byhalia yesterday afternoon, Dickerson said. Mason will be treated as an adult case, he said. A 16-year-old juvenile is in detention at the Corinth Juvenile Detention Center, Dickerson said. “He
was alleged to have been present at the time of the shooting and we
have good reason to believe and do believe the 16-year-old had
knowledge that the shooting was about to occur,” the sheriff said. “We
do anticipate he, too, will be charged with the murder of Terrell
Richmond.” Due to the nature of the crime, under
Mississippi law without further court proceedings, Mason will be
handled as any adult would be if they had committed the same type
crime, Dickerson said. Full Story
