As a result, Hollowell asked the Marshall County Board of Supervisors to order a burn ban. The burn ban, in effect until further notice, awaits approval by the Mississippi Forestry Service which officially issues burn bans. Some grass fires have resulted from the drying conditions, including one fire on Isom Chapel Road that could have been started by a burning vehicle on the side of the road, according to fire investigator Tracy Jeffries. Another grass fire required two calls Sunday on Duck Pond Road, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, Rodney Crane said. Other Holly Springs fire calls for the last week included: 15 medical assistance calls; three motor vehicle accidents with injuries; one natural gas leak; one utility pole fire; and assists to other departments at two grass fires.
